Museums Models
After 30 years experience of building and restoring ship models, my models reached museum standard level. Most of my time is taken by my current post of Master of Ship Models and restorer in the national Malta Maritime Museum. I restore and clean all the models which are donated or acquired by the same museum. In other cases I build models required by the same museum from scratch using my own or other plans drawn out from the research done before. An accurate description of my job at the Malta Maritime Museum can be read in this article in the Maltese language
Botzaris Foundation in Nafpaktos - Greece
Some years ago I had been commissioned by the Botzaris Foundation in Nafkastos in Greece to build Don Juan's Flagship which was active in the Battle of Lepanto of 1871. The Battle of Lepanto took place on 7 October 1571. The temporary Holy League defeated the Ottoman war fleet. The fleet of the Holy League had an Austrian Commander-in-Chief, Don Juan of Austria, the illegitimate son of Charles V of Spain.
Naval Museum of Moss in Norway
Recently I have finished a rescue boat to be exhibited in the Naval Museum of Moss in Norway. The boat, the RS 57, which was designed by G. Furuholmen, a well-known designer in Norway, is 11.6 metres long, 3.75 metres wide and has a 1.5 metres draught. It was powered by 95 hp Albin diesel engine. There are 50 lifeboat stations along the Norwegian coast and the boats go out mostly to assist fishermen in distress.
