About me...
I joined the Department of Museums, now Heritage Malta, in 1991 as a ship model maker and was promoted to restorer in 1999. I am now keeper of models and coordinator at the Malta Maritime Museum in Vittoriosa, where I also lead guided tours.
Various models of mine are exhibited at the Maritime Museum. Among models on permanent display abroad are, Don Juan's flagship at the Battle of Lepanto, 1571 which is the centrepice of the entire display of the Battle of Lepanto Museum in Nafkastos, Greece and lately the Norwegian Rescue Boat Oslakjopmannen built in 1953 and now exhibited at the Rescue Boat Museum section of the Norwegian Navy Museum, in Moss. I initiated courses on ship modelling, in a joint-venture between the Malta Society of Arts, Manufacture and Commerce and Heritage Malta.
I represented the Malta Maritime Museum in international conferences on maritime heritage and am also the author of numerous articles published both locally and abroad. Among these are articles in the quarterly magazine 'Model Shipwright' published by Conway Maritime Press in England. In 2001 I set up an exhibition on the maritime history of Senglea, through the Malta Tourism Authority and in 2002 formulated an exhibition, the first ever, on the fregatina, a Maltese traditional boat.
I was born in Senglea, Malta, to the late Emmanuel and Carmen nee Ventura and is married to Anna Maria nee Balzan. I have two daughters Joanna and Adriana.
